Apple Researching Methods for Facilitating Emergency Phone Calls (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=717287)
I was just over at MacRumors and ran across this particular discussion thread. I know there have been discussions on here regarding the iPhone and its relative merits and detractors, and so I felt this would be a relevant subject to bring up in that regard.
I don't, personally, have an iPhone. The fact that they are GSM-only and through AT&T only are significant factors for me. That being said, it's stuff like this which really makes me wish I had one, and (patenting issues aside) really think kindly of Apple for wanting to find a way to include these sort of capabilities on a cell phone.
I really feel this is a "credit where credit is due" kind of thing, especially as so many folk are quick to jump on the "closed source" and "proprietary" etc., etc., anti-Apple bandwagon. I'm not saying those points of view lack merit; rather, I think we need to consider such things as these in understanding why Apple's products are so popular.
