View Full Version : The most ironic thing I have experienced....

So today at my school was something that we call 'Portfolio Fair', it's pretty much like a pseudo job interview, we include a letter of introduction, resume, and assignments from the school year, we wore professional clothes (Dress shirts and suits)...

I was pretty nervous, my interviewer was a lady, looked middle-aged. Nice lady, we did the standard things...she looked through the portfolio, asked me question, etc.

When she read the letter of introduction, she discovered that I loved computers and programming....then she told me that she was a Computer Specialist, that she graduated with a degree in Computer Science and another degree. I was honestly, very very surprised
We talked a little bit and asked me what I developed in, etc... I told her I developed in C and she asked if it was C++ or just plain C, and of course I told her cold hard C.

she ended saying that she was very impressed by me and my portfolio. :D

My school does a similar thing with a local business. My interviewer asked about previous work, and I had computer repair on my CV. Eventually got a part time job there, nothing the top, just general computer maintenance, and re-installing OS's. They run W2K Pro, and there's always around 10 Computers needing a re-install in any week. Pretty easy money, doing something you enjoy.

That sounds great :), there were people from some business at my school too, but most of the people were from the community.

Oh and sorry...ironic isn't really the right word...more like unexpected. I always get the two words mixed up.

Like rain on your wedding day, Like the good advice that you just didn't take

Neither of those examples were ironic, nor was the original example. Sounds like really good news, but not irony.

Its not really irony but I get what he was trying to say. He did a job resume and figured out that the lady had similar interest like he did too. That Portfolio Fair is a very nice idea. Our school currently doesn't do that but I may be the first one that suggests that. :D

i always thought the irony was that the examples weren't ironic, maybe this threads the same.

it is a good idea and one that i wish my school had done back in the day. you guys that are still in high school REALLY need to pay attention and learn how to interview and write a resume properly. one or a combination of both will make or break that one chance at the job you really want.

I'm talking in casual form, I'm not writing an essay for the president ;)

Indeed, our teacher brought in a real interviewer from a real business and she told us some stories of people losing they're chance because of minor things.

You went to a job interview, and had a good interview. That isn't irony. If you were on your way to your job interview, and hit your interviewer with your car, and he/she sued you for a million dollars, that would be ironic.

Only if you were interviewing for a position in auto liability insurance sales or something like that.
