Dear All Ubuntu Fans,
Hey all, Me and my dad are wondering what you would like to see in Ubuntu 11.01 Which we will be starting in September this year, its going to be released in 2011 as we want to make sure it works smoothly and has no errors and more programes as starter, We will try and make it look HD style and maybe the Windows 7 look. Please can you post ideas for the Ubuntu 11.01, Thank you Your Name will be on the Thank You section of the Ubuntu if we use your idea.
Your Faithfully,
Michael Dance,

P.S sorry if it is in the wrong Section.

With laptop users, and some desktops, wireless and wireless cards are always on the top of the list, especially if you have broadcom equipment. Maybe trying to make upgrade smoother with this issue

The looks should be left to gnome/kde/compiz etc...

What revolution does ubuntu...or linux for human beings needs is the performance which you get when you compile from the source code (yep...Gentoo style!...while I say that, its being installed for.........aaaa......3hrs by now....).

Compilation from the source code should be made very easy...not 'Gentoo style' you know...

However it IS worth it...you get the best possible performance.

look like windows by default? absolutely not!!! Ubuntu is and should remain a different and distinct entity from Windows even in it's looks. Ubuntu did not achieve it's success by trying to be like Windows. Now if an individual wants their desktop to look as much like windows as possible they can find more than enough wallpapers, themes, etc on the web.

Actually I am against anything that will make Ubuntu act or look like Windows. If Windows was so great I wouldn't have Ubuntu. Don't get me wrong I am not against Windows, just trying to appease people by making Ubuntu more Windows-like,

A system restore like in windows. Or at least an undo update.

Good luck, but do we really need another Ubuntu based distro?

perhaps 11.04 will adopt rolling release like Arch but highly unlikely.

Given that I will still use Arch on my main box.

I don't think you can call it Ubuntu 11.01 if it's just you and your dad making it.

Ah, but maybe they're going to contribute to Ubuntu 11.01/.04 w/e it would be.

It's sometimes not a good idea to jump to conclusions, you know ;D

I'm not jumping to conclusions. It's stated clearly in the original post:

Contributing is much better than starting a whole new distro.

Or perhaps not make it at all, I doubt they have the knowledge to even maintain their own distro, as evident through the many spelling mistakes in his post.

Dear All Ubuntu Fans,
Hey all, Me and my dad are wondering what you would like to see in Ubuntu 11.01 ....Michael Dance,

Is you father Mark Shuttleworth?

Otherwise the next releases are on schedule for 9.10, and after that 10.04, 10.10, 11.04, etc, unless Shuttleworth changes that.

Careful, Michael Dance could be the Linux Hater (http://linuxhaters.blogspot.com/) preparing to unleash the Ultimate Linux Distro on society.

In all reality we just don't know.

If you do not know how to spell and type properly, I doubt you have ever done any serious programming or package management, especially the kind that would be necessary to
1) create a distro in the first place
2) maintain it
3) It be any different or of any value to bother with.

So, by this logic, if I got an F in spelling, but made an successful distribution, then I'd automatically get an A, because I'd need to have good spelling to create a nice distribution.

I don't think thats the issue. When it comes to programs and mainly end-user programs. Documentation and correct spelling in the program is really important, without it your program (in this case a Linux distribution) is doomed to fail. In fact, thanks to Ubuntuguide and multi language support I made a successfully launch using Linux. Before that all my attempts failed, mostly because the documentation was written for Geeks with level 80 and most translation was done by babelfish.

Next tot that, wrong spelling just looks dumb, here (http://www.pmmblognoot.nl/images/gebruik_illegale_software_adviseert_micr_1.jpg) a nice windows example. It's dutch but the bottom line says: "Show me some advantages using illegal software when I click finish." I hope I don't need to explain that it needs to be legally software.

@ topic: GOD NO, more than enough flavours and plenty of bug to squash. I think that starbucks has less flavours then ubuntu. And if I would like to use an Windows 7 -style os I will buy windows 7.

PS: yes I know my spelling is bad so this post sounds ironic, but for the moment I don't write English software.

What's with all the flack to the OP? Chill, people, he's trying to make something new. True tho, the name Ubuntu is off limits unless its Ubuntu-based. But if it weren't for Fedora and Slackware and 1,000 other distros we wouldn't have half the linux stuff we do, so let's show some love to those with big dreams. It's all open source anyway, so if they make anything of value its good for the community.

By the way, I'd personally love to see some 3d drivers in the distro to support the new 3d monitors coming out in the next few years.

The flack I'm giving is for the name. It's confusing and makes this release sound official when it is not.

It should be called Ubuntu, Windows 7 Clone Remix or something. It should not be called Ubuntu 11.01.

It couldn't even be called that unless Canonical said it was ok. It would have to avoid the Ubuntu name altogether.

Why not jump on board and contribute to 11.04 when the proper time comes? Otherwise people might get confused, and I've already seen enough confusion about the version numbers here in the forums!

There are all sort of distros that seems to me that cover all the spectrum of what you'd want... except porn surfing.

There is a lack of dedicated porn surfing distro that comes with everything needed on the live cd to start surfing.

It will need adblocks and popup blocker and include history delete thingy, an extention that downloads images from website withot clicking them and the desktop is a web start page that just contains bunch of links.

:roll:I thought it was funny:roll:

Wow the amount of flak and negative posts is rather disturbing. All he wants is help and feedback. Instead of all the negativity why not give him some ideas/guidance and let him do as he pleases?

Just because he doesnt spell correctly in a forum or whatever doesnt justify whats going on here. :(

Michael Dance all I can say is good luck. It will be hard, but you'll learn a lot putting a new distro together and will be all the better contributor for it.

As for the people giving negative comments:

This is why Linux sometimes gets a bad name people.! Many geeks are just jerks to other people.

You obviously have a lot of enthusiasm and if you make an awesome distro you may perhaps benefit Linux more than any one of them.

I think instead of doing a new rub off of Ubuntu, you could do a new desktop environment. Perhaps one that allows you to have a video, flash thing, or a html for a background. ^.^

I don't want to delete or close anything.

With Ubuntu, you are free to tweak it and re-release it. So if you want to do that, do that. I've done it. It's a great opportunity.

You just can't name it Ubuntu 11.04. Ubuntu encourages the use of the word remix. For example, if you wanted to make a version of Ubuntu tailored to comic book fans, you could call it Ubuntu Comic Book Remix. You could not call it Ubuntu Comic Book Edition or Ubuntu 11.04.

Read the trademark policy.

You better off using Arch linux (uses minimalistic approach) - http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Linux for these kind of experiments which is more flexible if you studying ICT at college. Ripping ubuntu to create something different is not a best way to go about in my opinion.
