I have been trying to install Ubuntu 8.04LTS but when it comes to the point to partition it I get the error message "The size is to small". How do I get past this?

What size are you giving each partition? for myself i have given Homme at least 20GB and root 15GB and swap 4GB. Since updates take storage also. The reason i said that is that last time i was down to 3GB for 8GB that i allocated to Root and home was still about 18Gb free.

Are you manually setting the sizes? if so what are they? you may consider (this is what i do) delete the partition you want to use, and have ubuntu figure it out on it's own ("use largest free space" option). If you still have problems with that, are giving it enough space, then you might have a bum live-cd. Then you'd want to use the check disk integrety option.

http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html : to download a pdf Ubuntu pocket guide which gives step by step instructions on the install.

It is recommended that one read and thoroughly acquaint themselves with what they are trying to do prior to commencing. These 3 links should get you over the hump
