Hi ncnbnt.
I don't think there is a way to downgrade. A clean install is the only way
to go back.

You cannot downgrade, make backups and do a fresh installation.
And if you want to use software from different Ubuntu releases in the future, have a look at documentation about backports or apt-pinning.

It might be much easier to try to get the programs to install... which are they?

Did you upgrade
a) 8.04 > 9.04
or
b) 8.04 > 8.10 > 9.04?
The former will break your system, while the latter is the proper way to upgrade.

I had ubuntu 8.04 and upgraded it to 9.10 .
Now i cant get plesk panel working so must do something.
So i will reinstall ubuntu BUT i have configured with so many difficulties the bind DNS settings.
How NOT to loose them with the new install?
Thanks
