Hello all,

Attempting to install Java 1.4.2 onto my Ubuntu install (which already has java 6 on it), but I keep on getting an error when trying to execute the bin file:

Extracting...
./j2sdk-1_4_2_19-linux-i586.bin: 442: ./install.sfx.12059: not found
Done.

Anyone know if it's even possible to install java 1.4.2 onto 64bit OS's? Or what this error even means?

I don't know if there is a package for 64 - bit. But the one you are trying to install not for 64 -bit. I use 64 bit too and used the jdk packages from the package manager and everything seems to work fine.

Were you able to actually find java 1.4.2 in the synaptic package installer? I could only see java 5 and 6, nothing earlier.

Going to try to install java 1.4.2 on my old 32 bit Ubuntu and move the files over....not sure if that's really the best way to do this.
