I did some searching but didn't find an answer. I have a dual boot system with W2K and Dapper Drake (6.06LTS). I would like to upgrade the ubuntu system to 8.10. My question is -- will I have to go thru the little manual editing trick I had to use to originally get dual boot working? It's been a couple of years but I recall it had to do with some over-writing of the MBR by one of the OS's.

I was thinking that maybe since it's a newer version that is now handled in the OS installation/upgrade.

Any advice is appreciated.

When you install the newer version, it will automatically detect the OSs already installed and configure GRUB accordingly. The only question is, why do you want to install 8.10? If you want an LTS version, you should go for 8.04. If you want the newest, go for 9.04.

Thanks for the reply and info.

I requested a CD and 8.10 was what was sent. I would prefer a LTS CD so maybe I'll look into that version. Don't want to be a pioneer (been there, done that and have arrow holes to prove it :D)
