View Full Version : [ubuntu] adding a new / drive

Long story made slightly shorter... I moved to Ubuntu as a trial and didn't go back. Unfortunately the trial mentality lead me to make some poor long term decisions.

I have two 500gb HDDs raid 1, and every time I try to upgrade the OS I fail miserably lose data and ultimately have to start from scratch (longer story not worth discussing). I would like to add a small HDD to function as the core os partitions (the parts of ubuntu that get upgraded when new versions come out) and have the two drives act as the other partitions. The idea is to simplify future upgrades and minimize the risk of losing data.

How do I;

Do this without losing whats on the drives already
Do this and reclaim the space the / occupies on those drives already
Do this and maintain the dual boot status I have with a previously unmentioned drive for when I must use another os

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

(22 hours later) id settle for the first bullet, anyone?

Not even wild guesses?
