I just installed the new Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my mothers Eee pc 900 (http://eeepc.asus.com/global/product900.html?n=0). It seemed to work fine except for some lag in the Netbook edition of the desktop, but after restarting a few times all the command lines were suddenly gone, and only the standard desktop was visible. I could open right-click menu, create a folder and open it, but also the window comand line (I mean the one with the window name, and close button etc.) was gone ...
I tried to reinstall Ubuntu Nbr and run it with the normal style Gnome desktop, but the same thing happened again.

My mother really miss her computer - Help!

the word you are looking for is the window title bar, command line is something else.

Try these links on similar issues:

hopefully this helps

This problem is described in both the 'Known Jaunty Jackalope bugs' thread and the 'Release Notes' for Jaunty. You will find the solution in the bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349519).

Thank you, I tried some of the links, which unfortunately didn't work for me. I hadn't time to try them all, but I will when I get access to that computer again.

So this wan't happen if I just don't switch to the ordinary GNOME desktop?

If you just don't use the current desktop-switcher when your desktop is functioning correctly, then you won't have this problem. If you have already used desktop-switcher, then you'll need to follow the thread in the bug report to find the solution to the current problem.

The fixed version of desktop-switcher is in jaunty-proposed now, so hopefully it will move to jaunty-updates relatively soon.

Very good, then I'll just fix it, tell my mom not to touch that switcher and look forward to an update :)
