I have an old sony vaio laptop I dont use much and thought I would stick Xubuntu on it to speed it up for the GF,

I loaded my Xubuntu disk (firstly it does work, booted from this and another pc fine today) and secondly the boot order is correct) (not being rude but they're always suggested first and the cd drive works fine, it books a win xp cd ok)

What happens is i put the boot cd in and the screen goes past the sony vaio boot up, it then hangs with a little dot flashing on the screen, if i eject the cd it boots into windows straight away (without a restart)

vaio version/model ?

i use a 10 year old model pcg-f430, they can be picky about media. try using a different brand cdr/cdrw, burn slow 4x gives the best results.
