My ubuntu 9.04 has lost its 'normal' resolution.

Everything was fine before, but now everything has gone much bigger. I can hardly see what's going on on the screen.

I think I need to add an another resolution to my ubuntu.

Right now I only got two resolutions.

800*600(4:3) is the one I'm using now and the other one I have is 640*480(4:3).

Please try to answer your question in the simplest form.......I am new to ubuntu.

Don't post double messages begging for help, it is just irritating. Does it work when you boot from a disk?

This happened to me when I didn't have a monitor plugged in to the machine when I first booted. When I plugged it in, I only had the option of 800 x 600 or lower. Rebooting (with a monitor plugged in) allowed ubuntu to detect the display properly and set the resolution to the proper level. It's also possible that reloading the graphical side of Ubuntu (X window?) would redetect the display. There's a keyboard shortcut to do that, but I don't recall it off the top of my head.
