View Full Version : Simple Idea to make Ubuntu more user friendly

In the home folder, instead of having stock icons they should have icons relevant to the folder itself.

I.E by default the icon for the Documents folder, should be different to the icon to the Music folder etc.

I know you can change the icon, but it would be better as default to make it more friendly for new users. On top of that, there's no way to customise it in the places menu.

I think the point of it was to make all folder icons look the same, and use those little things called emblems. I don't remember if the different folders had the corresponding emblems enabled by default, but I do have them on my machine. But both this way and Window's way with the different icons are fine by me.

Edit: After looking your linked screenshot, I decided that I actually like emblems better. It makes it easier to differentiate between folders and files because all the folders still have the folder icon.

Your mockup looks nice. Don't they have something similar in UNR?

They aren't enabled by default, but the emblems are ugly.

I think emblems are fine, but I wish they were displayed in the nautilus sidebar.
KDE has different icons for different folders though
