View Full Version : [xubuntu] partition help for noob

June 5th, 2009, 12:45 PM

I don't know squat about linux, but was sick of windows on my ibm x40 laptop.

installed xubuntu the other night and used the guided partition to set the drive up.

was reading how i should separate my hdd just in case something goes wrong, jumped on to the irc channel to find out how to properly setup the partitions but didnt get any help to my question , so read some more and went ahead and reinstalled again.

got some info from linux.com and decided to do the following partitions

/ 10gigs
/boot 2gig
/home 15gigs
/usr 12 gigs
/swap 3 gigs

but after succesfully installing all i see is:
- one "file system" icon on my desktop which in properties has 6.6gig free
- one "home" icon which has 12 gigs free

now to me, / is my filesystem icon?
/home is my home icon

but where did my /usr partition go?

its a 40 gig hdd

any help appreciated

** edit ** alright i should have searched a little more harder before i posted but i found this which was helpful

back to reinstalling... how fun!
