View Full Version : [ubuntu] Upgrade using (but not within) Live CD

Hi,

I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed on my brother's laptop.
I had the Ubuntu 9.04 CD from ShipIt.ubuntu.com.
How to upgrade it using the CD I got?

My idea is just backup the /home/user to another place/partition and install the new one on top of the old one. Could I do like that? Or is there any other way to upgrade?

Hi, you could move your /home to its own partition then do a clean install. If you do decide to go that way when you are installing 9.04 you would need to choose the manual partitioning option and reset the mount point for /home as well as / and choose the option to format / but do select the option to format /home.
