Does anybody know where you can get these in this day in age? I'm looking to do a modding project on a case, and the only ones that are plain enough are lian li cases; I'm not about to drop $100 on a case I'm going to rip to shreds, paint, etc.

The only things I'm really looking for is it can fit a decent sized PSU, the front bezel comes off and is plain jane, and the motherboard panel in the back will fit current motherboards (I heard sometime in the early 2000s the spacing got changed), and the motherboard tray is one sheet of metal, not those weird cross cut stuff.

FYI the old Biege cases from the 1990's will not hold the ATX standard motherboards and power supplies built today...thoes old cases are built on the AT standard, when things were a little different

Newegg sells some nice cheap cases with free shipping for about $35

Thrift stores almost ALWAYS have ancient PC's for sale ridiculously cheap.

I've gone through every case on newegg, lol. The problem with most of the cheaper ones is they try to look "gamer", and have some complicated front that I can't do anything with.

that's silver, not beige. I miss beige cases too, especially with phony MHz readouts and turbo buttons. Those turbo buttons would definitely make a lot of sense with today's overclocking enthusiast culture...

There's plenty of beige ATX cases from the 90s. I have a few.

I worked in a small computer store (part of a 3-store chain) for a bit, and I can tell you for sure that you should check out your nearest LOCAL dealer.

The thing about these stores is that once they order parts, they can't often send them back to the manufacturer for a refund, so they end up sitting in the back, gathering dust, and when someone really wants one, they'll offload it for CHEAP.

I know the store I worked at had some positively ancient cases from back when they first opened... they were so old they weren't even in the database anymore, and we'd just slap a sticker on it saying "$5" and change it with a pencil if we wanted to knock it down further.

Local computer stores are great for really hard to find components for legacy systems... another example is an ISA modem which probably used to retail for a hundred dollars, but kept getting knocked cheaper and cheaper until it was around $17 when I started working there.

If you don't buy 'em, nobody will, so they'll gladly offload it for you. Definitely give your local computer stores a call and ask, you'd be doing them a favour.

whats there to see, it most likely a untreated steel case with no rolled edges and a basic mount setup. In no time flat it will rust and give you another reason to keep your Tetanus shots up to date. I hate to say it but your really picky for a guy who is going to mod the crap out of the box.

Happy Modding! But please don't go adding a bunch of blue lights and fans, that look is getting really tacky.

I make probably $3000 a year off of builds, I know what I want and I know why I want it. ;) This one is only getting a turbine fan (hence the need for a plain front) in the front and maybe a window and a custom paint job.

You could also post a wanted ad in craigslist... people might want to get rid of their old computers... with cases.
