View Full Version : [ubuntu] Updated 9.04, but now 945GM performance bad!

I just did a routine update to my laptop running Ubuntu 9.04. I have used this laptop (Intel 945GM) on every Ubuntu release since 8.04, and I have not had a problem with graphics. I was even able to run compiz etc.

But after the update (did not check specifics unfortunately), things have completely changed. Lags very badly when scrolling etc. All desktop effects are off and I cannot enable even the "normal" setting.

Further, I cannot play videos. As soon as I open an .avi file (in Totem or VCL), it immediately closes.

I am thinking of just reinstalling Jaunty when I have time, as I am not very familiar with the restore functionality in Ubuntu.

You advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

So decided to just give it a shot, so restarted in the recovery mode. Scrolled through the list and then selected "auto repair to resolve graphics".

Restarted, and now everything works perfectly again. But I would like to get some useful information out of this experience, as clearly something in the latest update had an effect on the Intel 945GM.

What auditing methods could I use?
