A friends machine, Avira picks up svchost, and a bunch of other known windows processes as compromised, first time i ever saw this, usually i can get to it the when it's just a few files in system32, or the paging file. The situation was not helped by the fact that they had Avast, BitDefender and about 3 other anti-virus suites running simultaneously. It would seem that it's been infected for a while. Had to go safe mode and kill the suspect processes just to get it to boot without shutting down immediately thereafter ...Some Malware Doctor crap pops up at startup and begins a 'scan'.
They have already backed up their docs and whatnot. I'm fragging that bad boy tomorrow, don't have the time for anything else.
