Thanks Raymond, thats part of what i wanted to know. I also wanted to know if UNR would be compatable with my laptop. eg: drivers, wireless etc. Ubuntu works great on it.

Hello Verden,

Here are some links/sites that may help you

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2457
http://www.ubuntuhcl.org/

I have found that the best "test" is to run a distro in Live mode (i.e. try without making changes to your computer) and see if it relates well to my machine with regard to wifi, sound, desktop effects, writing/editing a doc, suspend and hibernate, mic, keyboard FN's, etc. If there are some fixes to be done, I first check the forums ... looking for a success rate. When I'm satisfied, then I install.

I have also gotten to install a working distro on one partition and the newer-to-be-worked-on distro on another partition. That way, I will always have a working OS.... and when a newer comes along, I just reformat over the oldest one, so on and so on.

On UNR, make sure you have the latest deb file with regard to the desktop switcher. A quick search on launchpad will point the way. BTW, it's also a good idea to join launchpad as most fixes are actively being done there.

I like UNR. I have it on my MSI Wind and a pure 8.10 Ubuntu as the second linux OS.

Good luck and regards.

I now have UNR on my laptop and everything works. This install works as good as a normal ubuntu install. I wonder when a x86_64version will be out?
Thanks for your help Raymond.

Hello Verden01,

You are most welcome. Congratulations on your UNR. Did you get the switcher working with no trouble? I hope so. Nevertheless, big =D> to you.

PS. Am attaching screenshots of the sources in this post for your reference re: your question regarding "software sources"

Regards and Happy Ubuntu-ing.

This is not a reply, but I thought that it did not make any sense to start a new thread (If I am wrong please tell me and I will start a new one).
I am currently running XUBUNTU 8.04 in my old, old old Sony Vaio PCNN505 (what I call the original netbook). XUBUNTU runs perfect, Wifi runs, internet runs, slow of course since I only can have 128Mb memory. do you think that it is possible to run UNR in it. I do not care about speed (obviously) but it would be nice if it ran a little bit faster. Full ubuntu ran on it but almost kills the computer with all the programs that it loads. XUBUNTU is better but I think that it still loads a lot of things that I do not need. I just want to be able to access the internet and maybe listen to music when I am traveling.

Thanks.

No worries .... here is the download link for UNR. Browsing the left hand side will show minimum requirements...384mb at least

Thanks for you reply. I already downloaded the img file. I will try to see if I can install it. As I mentioned this is a very nice little laptop. I am using it right now with XUBUNTU. One of the nicest features of it is that everything is external, CD-ROM, floppy drive, it has an external port which has the outputs to a serial port, parallel port, monitor output (VGA) and extra USB ports, so when you travel since most of the time you do not need all the extra things you just leave them home and just carry the small laptop and power cord. I will try to see if I can install this image and hopefully it works.
