Many people here (including myself) have their computer stats in their signature.

In the intrest of seeing what sort of variety of systems Ubuntu forum members have, please post your PC's stats here; CPU Speed, RAM, HDD etc =]

This is your opportunity to brag in a controled area, so egos dont go clogging up the forums ;] However, I have one simple request. Be honest. If you've a 400Mhz CPU, brag about that. I mean like, not everyone here has 1Tb HDDs ;]

I'll go first =]

I have 5 computers at home, the oldest is a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 with 1.5Gb RAM. It's up for sale! :)

My main PC is a AMD 2.7Ghz x2 overclocked to 3Ghz with 4Gb RAM. My favourite though is also the least powerful - my eeepc.

Edit: Forgot to add that all 5 computers are running Ubuntu 9.04, no dual booting anywhere.

lets see I have my newest, Lenovo Ideapad S10 -- intel Atom @1.6Ghz with 2.5GB RAM and I added in bluetooth, runs windows xp and Ubuntu netbook 9.04

the desktop/media center -- AMD Phenom 9950 with 4 GB of RAM, Nvidia 8600GT and with a 750GB and 74GB hard drives, which is also runnning Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Runs my media center pretty well, I had to write a tutorial to ge the tv card to run as there was no one site with all the info in one spot.

then my Arch linux machine, which is my old desktop -- AMD Athlon 64 3700+, with 2GB of RAM, and a 200GB hard drive

then my work PC IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T60 with 3GB of RAM, runs Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04

then my old dell inspiron 8100 laptop, 1 Ghz Intel P3, with 256 MB of RAM, running Xubuntu 8.04... the thing is a champ...

Winning is all depending on the user. I really want to know what you use this for. If you're not doing much rendering, all of that power is wasted. Mostly the RAM. But if you are, then that is a beast of a machine. I just doubt it because of the projector; I can't think of any real benefit for one except games and movies.

Out of curiosity, PurposeOfReason, what do YOU use all your computing horsepower for?

If I had 16Gb RAM, I'd be doing some serious VMing =] God guys, I was just beginning to feel better about my computer, now that I added another GB of RAM and a 320Gb HDD =] Now...Now it just looks old :lolflag:

And thats my most powerfull system :S However, I do have another newer computer, dubbed my DVD-PC =] Stats are;

Pentium IV @ 1.7 Ghz
512Mb DDR RAM
160Gb 7200 IDE HDD
Four (yup, four) DVD+/-RW Optical Drives
Windows XP Pro

This PC is used pretty much only for ripping and burning DVD's and encoding them to sync to my iPod =] It does have a pretty small HDD, but it links to my server for more space. Server stats;

Pentium III @ 500Mhz
256Mb RAM
Two 250Gb SATAII 7200 HDD's in RAID0
RAID Controller Card
An old DVD-ROM (only used for booting)
FreeNAS OS

Now I realise that this is an extremely low power machine =] I mean like, 500Mhz, really shows its age. However, it uses alot less electricity than any of my other PCs, so I feel less guilty about leaving it constantly running =]

Go GreenPeace Go :lolflag:

You sure can't do any serious work on a 50" projector, but I bet you could use all that power to play movies at crazy resolutions, if only they made projectors that good.

Out of curiosity, PurposeOfReason, what do YOU use all your computing horsepower for?
F@h, Games, compile box, programming, movies, music, benching, web, VM. Those are the first few that come to mind on a daily basis. I sometimes do renders for custom cases that I would like to build, but I lack the tools to make those dreams real. I'm not saying I need all this power, but there is a difference between subtle overkill and just straight up overkill. Could I do all this on a dual core? Sure. But I can do it way better like this. It's like saying you can do something on one monitor, but the second you get two. . .

The difference for him (remember, this is just my opinion) is like having a CD flac rip, or a vinyl rip. Flac is darn near perfect, if not perfect, vinyl is just bragging rights for 4x more the space and unless you have something to appreciate that (we're talking $10000 plus systems), it is a pure waste.

Fast, economic,reliable and eco-friendly!
:lolflag:

With all due respect, my dear friend, but this thing is all but eco friendly. It burns a mixture of petrol and oil and you can see a blue cloud coming with it. No cat either - it is a real smog producer.

But its cult - I'll give you that. And people in the GDR had to wait ten years for the privilege to own one of those racers.

Do it. They are the most fun on stupid cheap light bikes. Drop it? pick it up and keep riding? plastic damaged....$100 max, or just leave it ratted out.

34mpg? Eco-friendly? Are you American? ;) In Ireland, 34 mpg would be sneered at . Most 1.3-2litres here push around 40-48mpg. Diesels can get anywhere from 50-70mpg ;)

TheLions obviously was taking the mickey out of us. This thing was not fast - as he explained very nicely.
Nor was it reliable, even if it was in production for decades. I drove to Berlin many a time in the bad old days of the GDR and saw many of those along the road - bonnet up. However, repairing these go carts on steroids wasn't easy, as spare parts were not easy to come by and a lot of improvisation by the owner or mechanic was asked for.
As far as eco-friendly is concerned...:D

It a joke, I don't even own a Trabant anymore but it was cool having it because its funny sound (RatataRtattttaRataaaatttttaRtata http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucslVCRXVoo&feature=related) and lots of smoke behind you.

No I'm from Croatia. And about fuel usage most modern cars have 5-gear which increase engine efficiency

Serious? Trabants are actually made of plastic?

Well, with so little power, any weight saving helps ;) :lolflag:

total weight of Trabant is 820 kg.

Also if you crash it all you need is a lots of superglue and some ducktape!

Nice, 9650m GT? I learned something new today. But I don't get how such a nice laptop got stuck with a Pentium.

Mmmm.. been wondering about the Pentium myself. It does high end games just fine, so I guess the CPU is alright for that. Luckily I don't do any video encoding

I do encode DVD's and the like, on a Pentium 4, either my 3Ghz, or my 1.7 Ghz. 1.7 takes about 2 hours to encode a feature length DVD to M4V, the 3ghz about 1hour 20minutes.

However, I'm in the process of upgrading the 1.7 Ghz Pentium in my DVD ripping machine (4 DVD-RW drives :D )to a 2.8Ghz Pentium Dual Core.

Pentiums are generally relible chips, I've had no problems with mine. Heat output is alittle higher than an equilivant AMD chip, but speed is a bit better. A good solid (and these days, cheap) chip :D :D :lolflag:
