I have a nVidia 8800GTS with 640MB of RAM and a dual monitor configuration. To simplify and isolate my issue, I disconnected the monitor that was working. The monitor in question is a Viewsonic Optiquest Q241wb -- 24" monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200. I have tried almost every version of the nVidia driver available, but for some reason, the maximum resolution allowed is 640x480 (completely unacceptable, obviously). I have the shortest possible DVI cable connecting the monitor to the card. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be the problem? I am at wits end here.
