Sometimes, I come across files that are tar.gz. They are supposed to be "source files", but I know that tar.gz is an archive. How on Earth do I turn them into installable files, or install them.

I am asking this because I want to install 64 bit Sunbird onto my computer, yet it is a source file, so no idea what to do

Hi, unless there is a particular reason why you need to compile it you can install Sunbird from the Ubuntu repos either searching for it in synaptic and installing or from the terminal

sudo apt-get install sunbird

Yeah, I can install it via the Add/Remove and via the terminal, but there is the issue that the 32 bit that is supplied there simply won't let me add any events. So yeah
