Hi! i am a new user and i used to have my desktop totally clear now i have all the icons and it is making my laptop slower, how can i take that coverpage of my background?

i prefer having a nice clean desktop too. so if you have to have a lot of shortcuts, i recommend putting them in a folder on the desktop.

You can disable them too, using the "Configuration Editor". I don't remember exactly where to find it in the menus, because I moved mine but it should be somewhere like "Accessories", "Other", "System Tools" or "System >> Preferences".

After opening it, expand "apps/nautilus" tree and search for the options related to desktop icons.

Press alt+f2 to bring up the run dialog screen and enter "gconf-editor".
