Dear all:

I am very new to linux. I went on my computer yesterday and put about 1 GB of files in the /tmp folder because I could not move data in /bin or other / 's. I thought it was just another folder on the computer. Then I turned the computer off. I turned the computer back on today, and now none of the files are there any more. I was wondering if it is possible to recover the data that I put in the folder. I am using Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit edition. I absolutely need that data, but please also let me know if it is a lost cause.

Thanks

Welcome to the Ubuntu forums!

I'm just sorry it's under such bad circumstances.

First, I'll tell you right up front, the odds are against you. That said, it is very important that you do NOT use that installation of Ubuntu until after you've either recovered what you can or given it up as a lost cause.

Your best bet is to use a file recovery utility.

Here is an info page about some of the methods you can use:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery

This is mentioned on the above page, but I thought I may as well give you a direct link:

Good luck...
