ivch detect failed

I have ran the alternate installation for ubuntu 9.04 on my Dell Dimension 2400, and now when it boots (after the ubuntu splash scree), I get a "running in low graphics mode" with the messages ivch detect failed due to address mismatch (0 vs 2) and failed to pin front buffer: Cannot allocate memory

What do I do now?

I've been trying to load ubuntu for several weeks now. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I try the prior version (8.xx) with this computer instead? I can't seem to find anything about this error anywhere.
