When I had ADSL I used PlusNet (http://www.plus.net/). Their Linux support was pretty good, as was the rest of their service. I liked them a lot.

Steve.

PS No affiliations or anything like that. I just like them :)

What kind of support is needed exactly? Pretty much every router has a web interface for admin purposes, so it shouldn't really depend on what OS you have.

Although there are better reasons to use a particular ISP. Which OS they support is irrelevant if their service is rubbish to begin with.

Possibly the most Linux friendly ISP in the UK is UKFSN (http://www.ukfsn.org/home/internet/adsl/).

hi, gn2, not sure what you mean with LLU?

basically you need a BT-like phone line (Plusnet also offer line rental, tho i opted just for BB at the moment to see how that goes, if all continues to go well, i will transfer line and calls to them in future). it is £5.99 per month inc vat for the length of 18 month contract, not cheap for a couple of months then a hiked up price!

also included a free wireless router, tho you have to pay postage if you require it. no install disk filled with preloaded windows junk, just a few basic instructions by email with details to input in the modem/router admin setup page. (disks or downloads may be an option, i never looked, or inquired!)

ps, also, not associated with Plusnet in any way, apart from being a customer for a little over a month, so check for other more comprehensive reviews if interested: http://www.plus.net/

This might explain smoker.

Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) is the process where the incumbent operators (BT and Kingston in the UK) makes its local network (the copper cables that run from customers premises to the telephone exchange) available to other companies. Operators are then able to upgrade individual lines using DSL technology to offer services such as always on high speed Internet access, direct to the customer.

LLU on your exchange means cheaper ADSL, the cheapest Plusnet offering on my non-LLU exchange is £11.99/month.

My Dad is with TalkTalk, as am I. He had a few difficulties configuring his router as he didn't have windows, to run their automatic disk from. They didn't care he was on Ubuntu, they talked him through it manually.

thought my 'Loops were Locally Unbundled', though i'm sure that my doc, not the phoneman, told me that:p
