Simulate keypress with a script?

Is it possible to do a script that will do the same as if I pressed a key, say F4?

There is a library called python-virtkey that looks like what you would need to get this done that is installed by default in jaunty..

Just requires you know python.. ;)

xte can be used for that. I think its installed by default.
