These are recommended fonts for a Mac clone:

http://maketecheasier.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/appearance-configure-fonts.jpg

From here:

http://maketecheasier.com/turn-your-ubuntu-hardy-to-mac-osx-leopard/2008/07/23

Hope this helps... or at least doesn't stifle your creativity.

.

Ugh, it's not a Mac clone. I appreciate the advice, but I don't need it.
I just like the OS X dock, so I made my own theme for Cairo Dock to prefect it. Then I wanted the blue jelly scroll bars from OS X, that appear to have some sort of animation, and Mac4Lin does this perfectly!

In the end, I just want people to know that this is Ubuntu, not OS X.

Is there any way to install Docky in Kubuntu without having to install gnome-desktop?
Hmm, libgnomedesktop2.20cil is listed as a dependency for gnome-do and thus you probably won't be able to work around it. But remember that gnome-desktop is not the same as ubuntu-desktop, that is it doesn't contain a bunch of programs that you as a KDE user probably won't end up using.

Since my other screenshot was removed =) , i tried to create a new simple desktop , i know , kde is not minimalistic , but can be simple .

Details :

:: Plasma theme : glassified 3.0.1
:: Wallpaper : I dont remenber where i got it , but i can send it if anyone wants it .
:: Icons : Oxygen colors - can be downloaded on kde-look
:: Style : Oxygen , since bespin is still buggy with kmess 2 beta and firefox .
:: colors : Elegance colours , it can be extrated in the elegance plasma theme package .
:: Additional widgets : Stasks ( amazing and very usefull one ) + Analog clock .

So it is all for now =) .

Wow, that's pretty cool! Is Fluxbox hard to use? I might try it.

Easy to use; PITA to configure. Granted. I think at least part of that has to do with some weird bug with my system. I get weird X issues when trying to run Openbox or Fluxbox. If you find Fluxbox daunting, you can get a pretty similar experience running Xfce, without all the manual config file editing.

On Windows I run bbClean (http://wiki.bb4win.org/wiki/BBClean), which is a clone of Blackbox, which Fluxbox in based upon. On Windows it's more of a complete shell, with a variety of plugins that extend both the window management capabilities and allows you to have a lot of 'panels' and 'widgets'. bbClean and the other BB4WIN derivatives, while buggy, are the only way I can use Windows these days without wanting to punch the screen.

Mostly it just incorporates a couple of former plugins (menu icons, a bbleanskin mod), plus it has a few bug fixes. It's a little smoother. There's also a couple of mods of bbClean (yes, a mod of a mod of a mod) that add things like split gradients and pixmap theming but these apparently break quite a few plugins.

Not hard to use, initial setup might take a bit of effort. Config files are clearest I know though; it is pretty easy to learn what to do just by looking at them and editing it to your needs. For me, the main effort was making my menu; it'll autocreate one in Ubuntu but imo it isn't categorised too well, so there'll be a bit of rearranging there to get it to suit you.

Where do you get the blue elegant brit? Is it "Elegant Cold Blue" (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Gtk+themes+Elegant+Cold+Blue+(2+variants?content=7 7147)? That's the one I'm using, but it looks different there...perhaps I'm just sleepy, because it shade of blue looks different :S.

Weird....Even when I use superkaramba to manage my karambas, it still does not stay where I want it to. There is like a margin on the left edge of my screen. If I reload the theme it keeps a margin between itself and the desktop's edge. Any ideas?

The reason it does that is because the shadow extends a bit farther than it appears. When you move it really close to the edge of the screen, then part of the widget is off screen. When you reload it or restart Superkaramba, it moves it back to where the whole thing is being drawn on screen. Is there some reason you have to reload it? Because it should just stay in its place after you moved it.

The themes reload when I restart my computer. Any way I can fix it? But that doesn'y really make sense, because it also happens with the clock at the bottom left of my screen

Thanks.

EDIT: I just tried taking the karamba and putting it on the RIGHT edge of the screen so only half of it showed, and I reloaded it and it stayed there. Weird...it only happens with the left edge?

@TippedOut

thanks for the comment. Fluxbox is pretty easy to setup. and yes, it will take a little while to get used to the configuration, but once you know your way around, its pretty easy.

everything is done with simple text files. i have a minimal fluxbox setup, and i am so much used to the keyboard, that i am so not interested in setting up the menu for each program that i have installed. just one simple key binding for gmrun takes care of all my app launching needs.

@Armageddon

the fluxbox theme is Fawn made by thrynk. i modified it to suit my urxvt colors.

gtk is azra murrine brown like. its available over at gnome-look. keep in mind, its beta as the author had said, and its pretty buggy, especially the drop down menu. so one might have to work on the gtkrc.

GTK+ is your controls, Metacity is the window borders. This article might be a good start: http://linuxowns.wordpress.com/2008/06/16/guide-to-customizing-ubuntus-look-and-feel/

I rather like the wallpaper actually, but I'm kind of a sucker for transparent layouts with grass backgrounds.
The only thing I don't much care for on this screenie is the overabundance of icons in the top panel. You should try a transparent or semi-transparent dock on the bottom to corral those shortcuts rather than cramming them next to the menu.
Try avant-window-navigator, that's the best I've used that provides good-looking transparency.

I didn't change anything about the theme itself from the last screenshot, but I did change the following:

CAIRO-DOCK: I made some new icons. The GIMP and Synaptic ones look a bit funny, though.

EMERALD: I brought back the rounded top-left corner that was there before I released Macchiato 0.3.

FIREFOX: I extracted the tab-specific portions of a userstyle I found called "Chrome Skin" to make it match my theme.

FONT: I changed the font to Calibri, size 8.

I'm also thinking about making a conky based off of my cairo-dock icons.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean make the panel darker?

And I'll add froth when I get to editing the theme some more. I just don't know where I'm going to add the froth yet.

I'm also thinking about making a conky based off of my cairo-dock icons.

i love your firefox. how did you make it look like that??
(specifically the tabs)

The dark tabbar adds some needed contrast; makes the theme more striking. IMO, it would be a good idea to replicate that effect with the panel. Granted, if you're going to add contrast with a darker bit, achieving that same contrast with froth becomes redundant and potentially counter-productive to the theme's overall elegance (I can't think of many three-tone themes that work well, except perhaps shiki colours).

Yeah, shut up! I only just installed it :)

My first job was to try and get it to match my theme, but I don't know if Google's broken or something?! I tried the preferences but it didn't change, so...?

It doesn't consume *that* much memory, but it takes twice as much as AWN, and I only have a weensy netbook (I'm running at 57% with just Firefox and AWN in idle!). Anyway, I could probably put up with that if I could get it as customisable as AWN, since I love gnome-do...Might even replace my menu if I'm brave!!!

I've never heard of such a theme converter. I use emerald because it uses proper antialiasing and gives this particular theme that small edge over similar murrine themes. It's never caused me any problems and is just about as fast as metacity.

No no .. there is any theme converter. The Metacity is written like a gtk-theme. ;) Metacity is faster and harm more the resources. I didn't liked it with Emerald if you min/max the windows. The effect isn't so nice u know. I heart too that Emerald is a project what is going to R.I.P. ... but I heart it only ... I am not really sure. ;)

Okay, I've moved the files to Google Code so there shouldn't be any more warnings. I've also adapted a metacity theme to mimic the emerald version, so if you download the latest from GNOME-look you should be treated to a better metacity.

However, the metacity theme still has a few bugs, given that I've only spent about 30 minutes adapting it:

- There is little distinguishing active and inactive windows if you do not have compiz enabled (the gradient colors don't change between active/inactive windows)
- Maximized windows are still curved at the edges.
