Guys, is this thing a non-sense? I don't have a webcam, nor a printer, so if u have time could you check it out? This thing looks good in youtube though! haha.

Oh man! Today for the first time I am in desperate need of a webcam.
So this really works. Does it work on my system too?? Coz u know I have a stone age computer! and this requires 3-D stuffs...so i was doubtful.

Anyways, as soon as i get a webcam, I am tryin this!!!!!!!

It detects that special shape of that object on your paper, then maps 3D model on top of it. Such technique is called Motion tracking or Match moving (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Match_moving), and is very common in movie industry to map 3D models to the frame in scene in automated way, even if camera is shaking a lot. Shape can be anything that software is designed to recognize - in this case it is shape on white paper, but it can be colored dots or some other kind of markers.

It is amazing to see all this technology becoming available to everyone.

Compiz also have this technology to track user's head position:

Compiz : head tracking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ODz3MNd6s)
Compiz Webcam Headtracking #2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ODz3MNd6s)

Also, another project based on similar idea:

Johnny Lee: Wii Remote hacks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgKCrGvShZs)

Fun :)

Did anybody succeed making the LEGO atlantis AR work?

To me it just shows a black window.
