Computer maker Dell Inc. (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/gen/Dell_Inc._438941C0332441B09118ADC0F8FE699C.html) reported a 63 percent decline in earnings during the first quarter compared with the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Dell lost its spot as the No. 1 PC maker in the United States to Palo Alto-based rival Hewlett-Packard Co (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/gen/Hewlett-Packard_Co_5B6A579A9F304F22A43FB3F4B7AB0CFD.html). (NYSE:HPQ), which is now No. 1 both worldwide and in the United States, according to an April report from Gartner Inc.

What are your thoughts? what will happen to Dell? merge with HP? go under? be taken over? What does this mean for the future of Ubuntu on Dells? What does this mean for Ubuntu or Dell separately or jointly?...if anything?

Just because HP is now on top doesn't mean it's doing well, either. HP reported a 13% decline in profit during the same time period.

I don't think anything is going to happen to either of the two companies. A lot of companies are hurting right now during these hard economic times.

13% is a far cry from 63%...that is a whopping 50% difference!
