I have a machine that was a windows server.
it has 2 additional sata cards in it for a total of 10 drives available including the IDE (4 channel) and SATA (2 channel) on the MB (Asus A8S-X).

I unplugged ALL the SATA drives so I could install ubuntu-server on the first IDE.
great.
plugged all the SATA drives back in, set the bios to boot from the 1st IDE (which shows up second last now in the drive list.
great.
it works.
eventually managed to get all the SATAs mounted.
great.
I can see all my windows files that I might need some day (whatever).
so I install ubuntu-desktop to the 2nd IDE drive (all drives attached)
it reboots.
there's no entry in GRUB for the new ubuntu desktop on 2nd IDE

i've tried a bunch of things, but my Linux is a bit rusty (not much reliance on tools like Webmin I guess!)

How can I get this to boot to ubuntu-desktop???
or should i just unplug all the satas again and reinstall ubuntu desktop??

Warren

why does ubuntu not see the drives as reordered in the bios?? btw

I do not know what all is going on here, but I think that the lines after your windows boot info need to be above the line

the lines between the
###start and
### END DEBIAN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST###
are managed by webmin and if you put stuff in there, you might lose it.

its not that the entries don't show up in the list, its that when you choose them, it bombs out trying to boot - can't find OS, bad partition selected etc...

I'm thinking its something a noob like me just can't figure out on his own but an expert could spot right away.
