ok, so after getting my own pc i have to return the family pc to all windows status, i want to uninstall ubuntu, return the partitioned space to windows' power, and get rid of grub so that windows' boot thing takes over... the thing is i do not have the windows intall cd, and i dont want to touch the xp partition at all so that i dont get any complaining... so, how can i acomplish this?? (i do still have the ubuntu 8.04 live cd and a live cd of gparted if that helps)

The first post in this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=113630) has instructions that should allow you to do what you want. I can't personally vouch for it, but other people in the thread say it worked for them.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download and burn the SuperGrubDisk from the link below and restore your MBR using that:

A simple way to uninstall Ubuntu is to use Disk Management in Windows XP to delete the partitions. You will then still need to remove Grub.
