Are there any search engines that work on FOSS?

I know that some open-source search engine technologies exist, Nutch for example, but I've yet to find a currently running running search engine that isn't setup just for a single category--like real-estate, or source code.

Also, because I plan on using it on many computers, I don't want to use a distributed server that requires a software install.

Any ideas?

Found MozDex.com, but it doesn't seem the most reliable.

Server was down yesterday, search is down for updates today.
