I know that people talk about talk/ytalk/ntalk being superseded by newer styles of IM, but I'm increasingly missing the realtime character-by-character IM capabilities of the prequel to current IM's.
I've also searched, and found that I can install talkd/ntalkd/gtalkd servers, but they all seem to require additional configuration--even with additional configuration, I haven't yet either started a talk session on the same machine or gotten a response telnetting to localhost on 517 or 518.
I know that talk/ytalk/ntalk is considered to be superseded by newer IM methods, but could someone explain how to get a talkd/ntalkd daemon working and handling requests?
ATdhvaankcse,
