Hi

Having experimented a bit with Ubuntu, I came across Xubuntu and I was intrigued that it would run on systems with as low a RAM as 128MB.

I knew of an ancient Fujitsu Lifebook (mode L 470) someone returned at work, so I thought I'd give it a try.

When I try to install Xubuntu though, it flashes up an error message that the BIOS in the machine is too old (1999) and the cut off is 2000.

I've tried searching around as the obvious thing to do would be to flash the BIOS, but I think the machine is so old, it's difficult to tell what BIOS it has and where any update may be.

It is running a Pheonix BIOS version 1.32. The set up screen also says it has a Fujitsu BIOS, # 4, release 6.

The Fujitsu website does not seem to have any support for machines this old.

Anyone else encountered this problem and know a way round it? It seemed a cool way to get some more life out of an old laptop.

cheers

Tom.
