Its ok, I was in high school in the late 80's so I can still relate..lol

A bit younger than you though:p but I loved The Cure and The Smiths and Nirvana (although they were big in the early 90's moreso).

Loved New Order when I was at school, I can remember having a *shudder* boy band phase with the likes of Bros and New Kids on The Block (oh yes thats right - the original boy bands..lol) The again most people over 30 will remember NKOTB...hehe

I also listened to a bit of punk when I was a teen, most notably The Clash (still love them) and Dead Kennedys especially.

Chris Isaak is another guy who I liked from the late 80's who is still going now...

So yes, I listen on and off to music from the 80's but more memorable for me is the music from the 90's grunge era. (its amazing the difference only a few years can make ;) )

And for the record, they were great guys. Chris Sharrock, one of the best drummers then and still playing, Robbie Williams, Oasis, gave me a 30 second drum lesson many years ago at a gig in Liverpool!! "go on, smack it" :)

Hell to the yeah, 80s music was a period of spectacular electronic experimentation. There was also a lot of crap, but we don't have to listen to that anymore.

The 80's were great. The music from the 80's and 70's are way much better then the music produced today. For example I can't understand why a band like "Oasis" can make so much success. I can't hear them. They are so freaking annoying. Now understand why when I was young my parents complained so much about the music I listened. BTW, I'm 36.

I agree. I think I've even got some of those artists in my music collection.

Perhaps it's a sign of getting older, but I'm not so keen on some of the newer stuff, particularly the "music" in the hip-hip/rap tradition. Whatever happened to songs having a melody?

sounds like the '40 years on' syndrome to me. you know, when people say things were so much better back when i was young - usually about 40 years previously.
i tend to say the same about the seventies - coincidentally about 40 years ago when i was in my teens/early twenties.
sorry, i'm not being cynical here - it's something many of us do, i think. we all harken back to our glory days when we were golden and youthful and full of vigour; and the world hadn't laden us with grinding responsibility.
back when we were beautiful.
oh, gods, i'm coming over all maudlin - somebody slap me out of it...now!

I didn't take the time to appreciate the music of the 80s when it was new. In the 80's, I preferred listening to music from the 60's. Now that I'm older, I've opened my mind enough to appreciate modern music, while still listening to the oldies. By not paying it enough attention, I missed out on quite a bit of 80's music. Ah, memories :)

When I think of music in the 80's, I usually remember music being syntetic, cold, and boring (or downright stupid)

It wasn't until the 90's that I got interested again, when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" marked the beginning of angry young man with guitars finally taking over from dudes in suits with synths again.
