If you installed Ubuntu inside of Windows with Wubi, try the program manager in Windows to uninstall it. I'm just guessing because you didn't say...

Hi,

The only way I can think of is by doing it in two steps.

8.04 to 8.10 and then 8.10 to 9.04

These two guides should help you.:

Guide 1 (http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-upgrade-ubuntu-8.04-to-ubuntu-8.10-desktop-and-server)
Guide 2 (http://www.howtoforge.com/how-to-upgrade-ubuntu-8.10-to-ubuntu-9.04-desktop-and-server)

There maybe a better way to run the upgrades by going directly to 9.04, but I am not sure.

Hope this helps.

Edi: Hmm it looks like a WUBI install. Ignore the instructions i set out.

Did you install using Wubi? It would help to clarify that.

Truth be told the update to 9.04 is optional, if things work with Hardy then stick with it.
Jaunty has caused a lot of issues, ESPECIALLY with those with intel video cards.
If Hardy works stick with it, thats what I say :D

If you run the WUBI installer again, I think it offers you the option to remove the Ubuntu install. *think.

If not, then have you tried to run Add/Remove programs from Control Panel? The installer should run from there

But there are also some Intel cards that work perfectly. The Mobile GMA 4500 MHD graphics in my wife's laptop is superb with 9.04. Check out the card you have and if it will work 9.04 is much smoother and faster than 8.04, in my opinion.
