How to determine the battery life of an ipod?

A friend just asked me this:


I want to see what sort of battery life my iPod Classic has. I'm going to start some music, and record when it stops to check.

I'm trying to figure out how to see when the iPod turned off due to the battery being wasted you got any idea how to do it apart from staring at/listening to the ipod until then?

Two ways, one was charge it fully, put one song on repeat, wipe the play count then let it play til it's flat and then check the count. Another was to connect it up to a mic input on a computer, and record it with a sound capture program, and go back to see when the recording stopped.
