Good day,

I am trying to install Ubuntu on my HP workstaion xw4600 and the installation stalls on the splash screen. Eventually the cd spins down and goes quite. Stuck.

Reading another post here I downloaded the 64 bit version. Same thing. HP problem?

Core 2 E6550 CPU (64bit says AMD, but web said any 64bit CPU)
2 Gbytes RAM
250 GB hdd
Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 (Problem?)

Kinda a newbie here as well, but what you might try is verifying the CD after burning it. This can be done from the main boot screen from the CD. I had this problem as well, but all I did was eject the CD and put it in a different drive and then it worked.

I don't think it's a problem with your hardware.

You might have something here. I have had problems with HP servers where it would get stuck just before loading the GUI and that was the CD/DVD drive. I will change to IDE and see if that works. Will post result here.

Workstation does not have IDE port. Used an external usb CD drive. Also gets stuck, but not in the same place. Checked the CD integraty...OK Trying installation without ACPI. F6 option.
