i want to know how to i make my own login screen.

i know how to download and install ones taht have already been made by other people... but i want to pu my own picture on there.

where are the files stored, & what do you use to edit the settings.

The best place to start is the source:

Also try downloading a login theme and taking a look at what's inside the tarball. Play around with elements inside the xml file, like changing the images or element positions.

This is how I tweaked one of my login themes to comment out an element since my netbook's resolution was making the time overlap with the login options.

thanks for the link and info, but where are the themes installed to? where are the files saved so i can edit them after installation??

This theme has instructions how to change the background pic, locations &c, might be a nice place to start:

the simplest way is to use the plain login. you can select a background picture and the logo next to the login with it. of course it's not as customizable or pretty as creating a new one from scratch but I still like it and it's set up in minutes.

you can change it at system -> administration -> login
