I'm new to Ubuntu, and was wondering if people could recommend cool stuff for me to install, like themes, or mac-style task bars. Anything really.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

For themes you could look at Gnome-Look (http://www.gnome-look.org)
Dock wise, you could try Avant Window Manager or Cairo Dock
Compiz-Fusion (http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Install-Compiz-Fusion-on-Ubuntu-58113.shtml)would also give you all you all "eye candy" you could want. Though it depends on your hardware specifications.

Hope this helps you.

Install ubuntu-tweak

It's really useful and it's lists lots of cool apps you could try out.

Also, a cool app I've discovered lately, tdfsb. You can find it in Synaptic. It's a cool toy, you can fly through your filesystem visually, like so:

if you want to make ubuntu look like windows or mac you'll probably want to install emerald theme manager.
then you can go to gnome-look (http://www.gnome-look.org/) and download any theme you like the look of.

there are plenty guides about installing themes.

I made mine look like vista.
ubuntu is awesome, but its f&cking ugly to start with.
