Hi guys, I am a newb to Linux world. First I tested Linux with a virtual machine, however, my needs for coding forced me to like Linux and now I have it as a host system. I have many programs that are equivalents to windows, but I need something to live in peace: an animatted dream background - wihtout this, I will never surviveto Ubuntu.

I have dreamscene on my windows, however I know I can't have dreamscene on Linux, wine will certainly not work.

So I made a few searches and I came up with the following threads:

People seem to talk a lot about the xwinrap program that I don't know, I don't have, and specially, I don't know how to install.

I also heard that people can emulate dreamscene with my favorite media player VLC, and that it has better results because it doesn't consume a lot of memory like dreamscene seems to do.
However, by making a quick search on this forum, I found out that this VLC trick only works for Windows .. not Linux ...

So, I am here asking for help, does anyone know how to emulate dreamscene on Linux please?

Don't know how to help you, but I thought it was amusing that Microsoft is removing Dreamscene in Windows 7 and replacing it with a desktop slideshow feature.

@yoasif
You have to be kidding me ... I know Beta 7, I even tested already ... personally, if it can't run songbird, it's not worth it. Besides i prefer systems that are more stable, if you know what I mean ... anyway...

Anyway, I made a stronger research, and this time, I came with this link on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGlOA-cTMRs&NR=1

Apparently this link explains people how to have a movie as background, however, once the movie ends, the process dies, and everything gets back to normal, which is bad.

Can someone please help me make this thing loop?

Search engines are a wonderful tool...

Apparently reading other people comments also seems to be a wonderful tool you know that?

I already saw those links, I think I even mentioned it here. Further more, some of my links are from those you posted, so you are not helping much.

Anyway, I still appreciate the fact that you tried to help me, but don't insinuate that I don't know how to use a search tool, that is offensive to me.

About xwinwrag ... as I said before, I managed to make it work, however it is bugged like hell. some of it's features don't work and further more, the movie doesn't loop when it ends.

So, by making another research, I found that someone has picked up the xwinwrag project in order to complete it and fix it's many bugs:
http://tech.shantanugoel.com/projects/linux/shantz-xwinwrap

So, basically I am now trying to use this modification ... I will see what I can do, but I just can't make movies loop yet =S

xwinwrag is definitely far from dreamscene ... in many aspects.
