Was putting doing a dual boot system on my sister's Compaq 3.07Ghz PC with XP and 32bit Jaunty. The JJ install went through great, took 15 minutes and JJ was running great playing music and all. Then we decide to see how XP ran.
And YEP I messed up the XP partition and overwrote XP!

So had to reinstall XP and try again, because she needs XP since she likes Ubuntu but knows little about it.
Well I reinstall XP, which is a pain, and discover there is no sound now.
Did a little checking and it says there is no audio device after reinstalling XP.

So far I'm stumped. How can I get audio back?

You will need to install the drivers for the sound card in XP. If this was an OEM pre-built system go to Compaq's website to get them.

She bought it in 2005 with XP Home, it was running great till I messed it up on the dual boot.

Shazaam,
Thanks, got sound back with the Compaq help site.
Seems like this is a common problem with them and HP when you do an XP reinstall. This is the first time losing audio ever in the 12 years playing with PCs, so it through me for a lose.
Just had to do a driver update, install and reboot and problem solved.

Took 2 minutes to fix with this site:
