I recently attemnpted unsuccessfully to install vmware from a number of sources, first using sudo apt-get, didn't work, then I downloaded a promising tar.gz from the vmware website, it installed very nicely except it didn't work and now my firefox is severely broken.
I uninstalled vmware and firefox is still broken. My personal settings are reverted to default every time I exit the browser, no changes I make stay.
Any idea as to what happened or how to fix this, preferably without reinstalling firefox?
UPDATE: When I sudo firefox, all my settings are restored, but for whatever reason when firefox is not with sudo, it will be the broken mess I described above.
