Yea , I'll check it out , I like those folks over there and they do a fantastic job with what they do. But as far as looking forward to it as a replacement of Ubuntu , absolutely not. I love Ubuntu and I'm very committed to it , I've used many distributions and some for lengthy amounts of time , But I'm settled into Ubuntu and love it!.

I don't understand why so many Ubuntu users detest Mint. It's a good distro, so why bash it?

Where have you been since mint was released?

And yes, I'm looking foward to it. Probably not as main distro (Crunchbang for that) but as a virtual machine. =]

The only threads I have seen here are from people who said it was a much friendlier version of Ubuntu. I have never seen ANY where people said it was a terrible distro.

yep thats pretty much it. it's ubuntu with a few more programs installed that make life easier on first setup like codecs and ccsm.

If you want 64-bit, it's pretty useless.

I used it for a bit, but just couldn't get myself to like the menu. just as I don't like kde's new menu. ubuntu gnome is my /home.

I have been running Mint 7 RC on a desktop since it was released.

I installed Mint 7 on a wireless laptop and everything works right out of the box. Wireless and DVD player. Really slick. Gave that laptop away and bought a new Acer 5515 wireless laptop with Vista Basic that runs Mint 7 Live CD very well.
I have just purchased an identical drive for the Acer that will run Mint 7. Very easy to switch drives. Two screws for drive cover.
Picked up the new Acer off of ebay for $325, free shipping. Walmart use to sell them for $348.00.

Why not partition drive and dual boot

What is the new Mint 7 offering ?
I tried Mint again a few months ago, it has a few nice things.

But I prefer testing the new Fedora when it comes out, and I'd like to finally test Sabayon Linux, and the newest KDE 4.3 if possible with Kubuntu or perhaps Mandriva.
And I might want to play with Arch Linux again, on some older machines.

Why not partition drive and dual boot

Been running Linux for five years. I see no reason for dual boot when drives are inexpensive and Linux is so easy to install. Never, ever had any dual boot heartburn. My way. I want to run applications, not operating systems.
I am only a user, not a techie.
