View Full Version : What are Some Decent PC Speakers?

I think this is the right section for this....

So what are some decent PC speakers? They'll be used for watching films and listening to music. Preferably around £50 and they're going to be sat on my desk.

With the speakers that have a sub attached into them would that be okay just sat under my desk?

I've been looking at some Logitech (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116853#) ones and some Creative (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132365) ones.

Thanks and sorry if this isn't the right section but I couldn't find one that fit this type of question.

Just get an amp and some 2/3 way shelf speakers, `pc' speakers almost always sound awful.

Personally, I don't use PC speakers. I bought some good speakers and hooked my computer up to a receiver. :D

You could probably do this for under $150 if you don't want anything "fancy."

If you are going to be watching films/music, make sure to get surround sound (5.1). I got cheap 5.1 cyber acoustics for $50 CAD (25 pounds?) 2.5 years ago (still work fine). A large improvement from default 2 speakers that come with computer.

Some cheap 5.1 logitech would do the job.
Cheap 5.1 surround sound speakers sound MUCH better than your default 2 speakers that come with computer. A definitely worthwhile upgrade for a small amount of money. It makes watching movies much better, as the sound quality is great, and subwoofer adds lots of bass if you want.

If you want high quality (expensive) logitech speakers, I'd suggest logitech Z-5500. But the logitech speakers you linked to would be fine for a first time surround sound buyer. I think Logitech has other cheap 5.1 speakers. Make sure to check them out and wait for sales.

I have my sub sitting under my desk where my feet are.

i prefer monitors for music as i can't stand watching movies on the pc even with a 24" monitor.

as suggested previously, get 5.1 if you're watching movies, whether it's a home stereo setup for a smaller pc speaker setup.

I have a Logitech Z5300-e setup and it sounds very nice, both for music/movies and games. Logitech has always treated me well.

Would these (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/120414) be better than the Logitech speakers I mentioned in my first post?

I really don't have the money to spend £100+ on some speakers.

Thanks.

I'm using an X-530 right now. Not much controls, but it's a great bargain. It's the best speakers i've ever owned. :P

Do a google search comparing 530/540.
I found: Logitech X-530 vs X-540 (http://forums.techpowerup.com/archive/index.php/t-40530.html)

also check reviews for each. They normally have lots of pictures.

I got me a set of huge but beautiful Fisher speakers at a garage sale for $10. They shake the bloody house. I'll probably NEVER find a good deal like that again :)

I've got my PC running through my amp. I can't remember the output of it all, but it's fantastic.

In my room I'm running an amp I got for $5 and a set of full speakers I got for $8; thrift shops for the win! They sound better than any computer speakers you can get under $150.... as long as space isn't an issue and you're getting 2 (or 2.1), speaker technology hasn't really changed much at all in the past 30 years (or what has hasn't caught on, like electrostatic speakers) so for the price real speakers instead of computer speakers will be a fraction of the price yet also better for sound quality.

That's not even going into the speakers I use for my projector+ubuntu+openbox+XBMC setup, which uses a pair of Allison Acoustics speakers from the 80s which would fetch hundreds of dollars on eBay but I found them in a backalley. That's a pretty insane price-to-performance ratio, but that's just damn good luck. Still, it proves the point that since good speakers have existed for so long it isn't that hard to find them cheap or for free, and it's definitely worth it if you do. Just keep your eyes open :)

I've used Altec Lansing for years. I'm currently using these, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3296569&CatId=2891

Awesome performance, very good sound. I couldn't be happier.

Klipsch! I have a 2.1 setup and they are seriously loud and clear. They will easily fill a good sized room. I've seen them on sale for $99. ProMedia 2.1 Computer Speaker System (http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/promedia-2-1.aspx)

You will generally get what you pay for. It depends upon how good you want it to sound (aka...higher cost).

Cheers for the replies! I've decided on the Logitech X-540's. They seem worth the extra 16 quid rather than getting the X-530's.

Thanks for the links andrewabc. I was going to look for some reviews last night but I was pretty tired.

They seem to be exactly what I want and better than what I was originally going to get.

Thanks!

Bose

did you even pay attention to how much he wants to spend? Bose are nowhere near worth the price you pay.

I went for something a bit different, Edifier 300. Originally designed for laptops, but fit nicely below my monitor.
Everyone always says "Wow! are those little things making that sound" when they see them.

A great blend of style and sound quality - Just in your budget

Guys I also want to buy new speakers, do you recommend Creative Inspire 7.1? It costs $120 in my country.
