Terminal won't start

I'm running KDE 4.1, Ubuntu 8.10. I have this problem, my terminal window just won't start, same happens with my file browser. When I click the icon, they attempt to start, but exit without showing any messages. Other apps runs ok. Any clues?

Install xterm (it might already be installed), and start it with Alt+F2 and type xterm. In this terminal window, type konsole and see what error messages it shows. Do the same with dolphin.

Have you always had this problem?

Thanks, I did what you told me. The problem is I recently upgrade and in the process / partition went out of space, and it looks like it uninstalled the konsole and dolphin and never installed it back. I installed them again.
