I install the firefox 3.5 beta on my ubuntu 9.04
but i cannot install any addons/extensions shiretoko seems to not
allow downloading

Until firefox3.5 is officially released, you may want to disable addon compatibility check as explained in the link below:

i get the message

shiretoko couldn't retrieve add-ons

and when i try to browse on the web site it shows page not found
trying to get to link

Before updating to Firefox 3.5, you should have installed the 'Nightly Tester Tools' add-on. Then, you would have a new button in the Add-ons applet to "override all compatibility". I've found that most of the old plug-ins work fine in the newer Firefox with compatibility overridden. Just a suggestion for others contemplating trying the newest Mozilla Firefox.

i solved this by replacing the synaptic firefox 3.0 with manually install firefox beta
as per
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxNewVersion

the ppa repo for firefox 3.5 3.6 allow co-existence with firefox 3.0(synaptic default)
but are limited imo with addons and other minor things
