try these, this first one speaks to you :p some are backward, there's the invisible web which searches databases which normal spiders don't go, one shows google on one side of the page and yahoo's results on the other, one tries to guess what you are typing, etc etc

I've played around with this search engine.. and i like it.. alot and it's now my new homepage. :)

I joined this board..this week.. and it has posts i made here already searchable. That's fast. The whole preview option and the grouping of links off to the side is nice..and even with all of that, it manages to stay pretty clutter free.

Considering AOL has convinced Google to try "busier ads" and i'm not really too keen on some practices Google is getting deeper and deeper into (and the fact they keep changing they're license agreement without any kind of public announcement).

I have a feeling google's "don't be evil" motto, will one day just be the chant with little meaning. So yeah, i have nothing against Google as it stands today.. but i do see them becoming something most of the "bash MS" crowd stands against.

So? It's previews of the sites you're about to visit. I think that could be a little helpful when web browsing. Save me a click or two.

i've always used clusty for those english papers at college.
but it's not really a search engine, i believe the term was "Clustering engine".
it used to be called Vivisimo before they renamed it to Clusty.

Google and Clusty on my Blog (http://housni.blogspot.com/2005/01/google-and-clusty.html)

What I would really need is another search engine with cached versions of the results, because the one from Google are more and more broken lately.

I hate to write it but MSN is really better than Google at the moment. I wish Google would go back to its roots and fix the Web and Usenet search instead of releasing a new random application every second week.

It brings up something interesting when you search on 'ubuntu'. :)

Ubuntu (IPA [+]: ) is a South Africa [+]n ethic [+] or ideology [+] focusing on people's allegiances and relations with each other. The word comes from the Zulu [+] and Xhosa [+] languages. Ubuntu is seen as a traditional African concept.

A rough translation in English [+] could be "humanity towards others." Another translation would be: "The belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity." [http://www.ubuntufund.org/overview.html].

An attempt at a longer definition has been made by Archbishop Desmond Tutu [+]:

Ubuntu is seen as one of the founding principles of the new republic of South Africa, and is connected to the idea of an African Renaissance [+]. In the political sphere, the concept of ubuntu is used to emphasise the need for unity or consensus in decision-making, as well as the need for a suitably humanitarian ethic to inform those decisions.

I noticed you can add it to your firefox search engines by selecting 'Add Engines', and then doing a search on previewseek.com. From there you can select as the default engine in the search bar on firefox.

imagine
January 14th, 2006, 07:53 PM
That's from Wikipedia. You can get the same with Google by typing define:Ubuntu.
