Multimedia is media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_%28communication%29) and content (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_%28media_and_publishing%29) that uses a combination of different content forms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_format). The term can be used as a noun (a medium with multiple content forms) or as an adjective describing a medium as having multiple content forms. The term is used in contrast to media which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Writing), audio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound), still images (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image), animation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animation), video (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Footage), and interactivity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactivity) content forms.
Multimedia is usually recorded and played, displayed or accessed by information content (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information) processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Multimedia (as an adjective) also describes electronic media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_media) devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is similar to traditional mixed media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_media) in fine art (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_art), but with a broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interactive_media). Hypermedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypermedia) can be considered one particular multimedia application.
