I was going through synaptic and noticed that linux-restricted-modules are installed.
I don't think I have any reason to have this installed. Why and how did it get installed?

Also what does it contain now? The description is pretty vague, in fact it doesn't provide any information at all except

This package provides restricted modules for Linux version 2.6.28 on
x86/x86_64.

These modules are "restricted" because they are not available under a
completely Free licence.
I remember in the past it was needed for restricted video drivers, but I don't think that is the case anymore...now it looks like it is for just certain wireless devices.
Should a bug report be filed to get a better description (and correct spelling of
license?)

linux-generic depends on linux-restricted-modules
That doesn't seem right to me.
